Valley 4 Blues 1

2013-10-14

The crew pick up another W for the win column

The ole 'Ripper' was away for this one although I was receiving updates via 'Twitter guy'(Tyler Whynot) relayed from Florida.  Hmmm  maybe I need me one of them text machines.....Nahhhhh it's easier on the thumbs letting someone beside ya get the info,  feels almost like me having a secretary.

Anyways here's and update from the boys at NSJHL.ca
" In a late Sunday afternoon game in Berwick the Valley Maple Leafs handled the Cumberland County Blues 4-1 while later in the night the visiting Brookfield Elks doubled the Pictou County Scotians 6-3.

At the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick the Valley Maple Leafs needed less than three minutes to jump on the score sheet first when Brandon Parker notched the only goal of the period. Andrew Squires and Brady Fisher picked up the assists.

The Valley team totally dominated the Cumberland County Blues and if not for Blues’ goaltender Jesse Cox the score would have been a lot worse. Shots in the period favoured the Leafs at 18-6.

Halfway through the middle stanza Valley rookie Matt Viney collected his 3rd goal of the year, on a breakaway, to get the Leafs up 2-0.  Andrew Squires and David Hayes picked up the assists. Then just a minute and a half later another rookie Dryden Schofield had the Leafs sitting 3-0 with a unassisted marker at 11:17. With just under two minutes to play in the period Shane Harnish finally had the Blues on the game sheet, a power play goal, from Jesse Colborne and Steven Whittle.

After forty minutes the Valley Maple Leafs were sitting 3-1 and ahead on the shot clock 27-16.

Just the one goal in the third when David Hayes finished with a 3rd Valley rookie Alex Feltmate and Colin Gillis.

Rookie goaltender Liam Cavanagh picked up the win for the Leafs, his first in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League,  while Jesse Cox suffered the loss.

Final shots were 44-24 Valley.

With the win the Maple Leafs move into sole possession of first place in the Fred Fox Division with a 5-3-0-0 record. The Blues remain in the cellar over in the Sid Rowe Division with a 1-5-0-0 record."

Hard to give a Rip's 'nod' in this one as Rip wasn't there to 'nod'  however would like give a shout out to young Liam Cavanagh picking up his first win between the pipes for the Valley.

Next up:  A "Barn Burner",  yep you heard it right a barn burner as the VML crew bring Junior B hockey back to 'The Barn' in Windsor this Friday night.  Be there.
