Valley Maple Leafs start of with a W in the win column

2012-09-22

It was certainly nice to see the boys start off the season with a win last night in Berwick. The boys came away with a3-2 win over the visisting Glace Bay Jr. Miners.

The crew got off to a quick lead by slipping a couple by their ole buddy Jake Mckendry.  I think maybe McKendry must have had bus legs because after that he made some beautiful saves to keep the game close.  "Skully" er I mean Mitch Culley played a good game between the pipes for Valley turning away 28 of the 30 shots for the win. David "Haysee" Hayes picked up the hat, "hard hat" that is, for his efforts and scoring the first goal just 41 seconds into the game on a feed from rookie Dylan Lowthers and old timer Jory Uhlman .  The "Hat" for you guys that don't know is a hard hat the players give to who they think deserves it,  then I believe the guy that has it, picks who gets it the next game(cool).  Less than a minute later Brandon Parker celebrated his return to the Leafs with a goal assisted by Luke Short to put the Leafs up 2-0. Leaf rookies Craig Anderson set up Colin Gillis who got the break away goal with one of them fancy five hole drop and slides or whatever them young fella's call it with 5:39 left on the clock in the second.  I think that pretty much finished up the legs on the boys cause when it got to ht third I think I could of out ran a few of them.  They did however seem to have enough to do a little "toe to to toe dosey doe".  Josh "Knuckles" Crouse got his punch total all the way up to 2 with a dance early in the third.  You know that "Knuckles" thing was just a joke initally but I think it will stick now.  Brandon Parker also wanted to make sure he got to use all the scoreboard with a skirmish that got him to the dressing room early as well.

Oh and how bout Freddy in the new Jersey.  Lookin good.

All and all an impressive first game with Rip's nod going to the Appledome and fans who hosted a beautiful home opener.   Thanks to the League executive for showing up. Honourble mention goes out to all those that made this happen from sponsor's, parents, executive and the players.

Next up the boys take on the Pictou County Scotians tonight @7:30 in Kentville.  Hopefully the boys didn't celebrate to much last night and are ready to giv'er tonight.  See ya all there.
