The Valley Maple Leafs are fully cognizant that while they have not been eliminated from playoff contention, the road in their final five games is far from an easy one.  However with the Leafs play over the past three games, nothing should be written from the slate as the Leafs upended the Liverpool Privateers 3-1 in a make-up game Wednesday. Blake Meech stopped 37 of 38 shots as he led his club to within seven points of the fourth and final playoff position in the Fred Fox Division of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.  The Leafs used a call-up Wednesday, Gregor Yoell, who scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in the third period.

Yoell’s first goal put the Leafs up 1-0 after the opening period before Dylan Crews on the power-play tied it for the Privateers at 1-1 after two periods.  Yoell’s goal followed by an Ian Drysdale marker clinched it for the Leafs who finished January with a 4-4 mark and on a three-game winning streak.  The Privateers who had yet to visit Windsor in 2018-2019 will make their second trip of the season in just two nights as they play the Leafs Friday, February 1.

A win by the Leafs would put them five points out with four games remaining on their schedule compared to Liverpool’s five. Liverpool without question has a better schedule in their final five games, as they play a home and away, with the 1-24-3 Brookfield Elks and their opponents in their final five games have a combined record of 36-39-7. The Leafs after their game with the Privateers play strong contending teams in Port Hawkesbury, Sackville and cole Harbour at home while playing one game on the road in East Hants.  Compared to Liverpool’s opponents, the Leafs opponents have a seasonal record of 74-25-6.
