It was another barn burner at the Hants County Exhibition Arena in Windsor Friday night, but just like last Sunday, VML had trouble controlling the key scoring magnets of the Penguins and lost in overtime 7-6.  The contest was a chippy affair with 110 penalty minutes called including 10 minors assessed for roughing after the whistle, five misconducts, and minor penalties for kneeing, cross-checking, boarding, charging and unsportsmanlike conduct.  Parker Boland’s goal with less than two minutes to play in overtime provided the Penguins with their winning goal.  The Leafs were slow in getting started, being outshot by the Penguins 42-22 in the opening two periods but gained momentum in the third when they rallied from a 6-4 deficit to tie the game at 6-6 and send it into OT.  The Valley outshot the first place Penguins 22-12 in the third period and 4-2 in overtime for a 56-48 advantage for the Penguins for the game.  The Leafs defence had trouble hanging on late and early in periods as the Penguins scored twice in a span of 51 seconds with less than two minutes to play in the opening period and gave up another goal only 11 seconds into the second period.

Isaac Bridge gave the Leafs a 1-0 lead before the Pens two goals by Derek Boudreault and Adam Peruzza on the power-play 51 seconds apart late in the first.  Robert Macdonald’s goal for the Leafs with 30 seconds left in the first tied the game at 2-2.

Within 40 seconds of the opening of the second period, the teams were tied 3-3 as Evan McHenry scored 11 seconds into the middle frame and Patrick Halpin tied it for the Leafs with only 40 seconds gone.  Zachary St. Onge then put the Maple Leafs up 4-3 on the power-play before Adam Peruzza struck again on the power-play to knot the game at 4-4.  It was then MacDonald’s two goals to give the Pens a 6-4 lead after two periods.

Ethan Rendell-Watson, who continues to play a pivotal role in the Leafs offence, scored to make it 6-5 Pens before John Chambers tied it for the Leafs at 6-6 with 2:10 left in the third.  East Hants with the win improved to 11-1-3 on the season for 25 points while the Maple Leafs are now 6-8-1 for 13 points.
