The Sackville Blazers recorded win 8 out of 10 games this season, a 4-2 verdict over the Valley Maple Leafs Monday night at home. The Leafs, coming off a 10 goal performance Friday night at home, pressured the Blazers all night but simply could not find the back of the net against Justin Sumarah, despite rifling 56 shots. Dean Vial brought the Leafs to within a goal at 3-2 with 2:20 left in the third period but Regan MacDonald scored into an empty net 48 seconds after Vial’s goal for the 4-2 win. The Blazers led the game throughout, coming in 2-0 after the opening period despite being outshot 26-10 by the Leafs. Cody Burghardt on the power-play brought the Leafs back to within 1 before the Blazers made it 3-1 after two periods. The Blazers are now 8-2-0 and lead the Fred Fox Division by four points over the East Hants Penguins who hold three games in hand on the Blazers with the Pens currently holding a 5-0-2 record for 12 points. Liverpool is third with nine points and the Leafs fourth with 8 points and a 4-3-0 record.  A number of critical early-season games coming up this weekend with Antigonish visiting East Hants Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and the Leafs travelling to Antigonish Sunday night for their first meeting of the season agains the Jr. Bulldogs.
